Frequently asked questions

Everything about safety, privacy, accuracy, and payments. Something missing? Email app.unfollowly@gmail.com.

Safety

Can using this get my Instagram account banned?

No. Apps get accounts banned when they log into Instagram on your behalf — that violates Instagram’s terms. We never touch your account: you upload the data file Instagram itself created for you, and your browser analyzes it locally. From Instagram’s point of view, nothing happened.

Do you ever ask for my Instagram password?

Never. There is no login of any kind — not with Instagram, not with us. If any unfollower tool asks for your Instagram password, close it.

Is requesting my data export safe?

Yes — “Download your information” is an official Instagram feature, required by privacy law. Requesting your own data is completely normal and invisible to other users.

Privacy

Where does my data go when I upload the file?

Nowhere. The file is read by JavaScript running in your browser tab. It is never sent to our server — we don’t have a database to put it in. You can verify this yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the network tab, and analyze a file. You’ll see no upload.

Where is my history stored if I use Tracker?

In your browser’s local storage, on your device only. We can’t see it. That also means clearing your browser data deletes it — use the “Back up history” button to save a copy.

Can you delete my data?

There is nothing for us to delete — we never receive your data in the first place. To remove everything locally, clear this site’s data in your browser settings.

Accuracy & how it works

How accurate are the results?

Exactly as accurate as Instagram’s own data — we read the official export, not estimates. The results reflect the moment the export was generated, so request a fresh export whenever you want current numbers.

Why does someone show as having unfollowed me when they just renamed their account?

Instagram’s export contains usernames, not permanent account IDs. If someone changes their username between two of your exports, the old name disappears and the new one appears — which looks like an unfollow plus a new follower. It’s a limitation of the data Instagram provides.

What is the JSON format and why does it matter?

Instagram offers the export in HTML (the default, meant for reading) or JSON (structured data). The checker needs JSON. If you got an HTML export, request a new one and switch the Format option to JSON — the guide shows exactly where.

Can you show me who viewed my profile?

No — and nobody can. Instagram does not expose profile-view data to anyone, in any format. Apps that promise “profile viewers” or “secret admirers” are making it up. We only show what is truly in your data.

Can I check someone else’s account?

No. The export only exists for your own account — that’s precisely what makes this method safe and private.

Payments

What do I get for free?

All your counts (followers, following, mutuals, fans, pending requests) plus your first unfollowers. The complete lists, CSV export, and history tracking are part of the paid plans.

Is Pro really a one-time payment?

Yes. Pay once, keep it. Only Tracker — the plan with ongoing history features — is yearly.

How do refunds work?

14 days, no questions asked — this also covers your EU statutory right of withdrawal. Email app.unfollowly@gmail.com with your code and we'll refund the purchase.

I lost my unlock code. What now?

Check the email we sent it to first. Can't find it? Write to app.unfollowly@gmail.com from the address you used to pay, and we'll resend it.
